A police sergeant who jumped to the assistance of a partner that was assaulted by a blade-wielder received the Royal Recognition for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he held a weapon to the neck of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the policemen and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver following a vehicle incident in the area in summer 2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed both Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.

"Officer stabbed," the officer stated over his communication device.

Officer-mounted and vehicle camera recording made public by the police department showed Brown, that was clothed in dark clothing with a hood covering head, approach to Sergeant Foster from behind with a knife outstretched.

He ran into the policeman who stumbled and dropped to the pavement, before Sgt Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the ground even though being multiple times hit with the knife.

Police Constable Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and waited for a open target, bringing the confrontation to an conclusion.

Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "I need help on my neck here, I got knifed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell received multiple open wounds to his throat and more injuries to his arms and body, whereas Sergeant Foster experienced knife wounds.

The department reported Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stop his colleague's blood loss prior to medical personnel reached the scene.

The new award arrives subsequent to the law enforcement team received organizational Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the area officer association in April 2024.

They additionally received a North West Courage Honor in July 2024.
